Statement on Leadership Transition

Thursday 28th April 2022, Nairobi: On behalf of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Board of Directors, I would like to announce the departure of our Chief Executive, Ms Phyllis Wakiaga, from the Association after 9 years of dedicated service.

Since joining KAM as the Head of Policy, Research and Advocacy in 2013, and later taking over the leadership mantle in 2015 as CEO from (now CS) Ms Betty Maina, Phyllis has brought a tremendous level of energy, enthusiasm, and industry knowledge to the organization.

Under her management, the Association has established itself as the go-to adviser to Government and other high-level entities on matters manufacturing and trade. She has implemented many critical changes and instituted deep robust structures towards the transformation of the Association, both internally and externally. Phyllis has also been consistent in ensuring that these values are now enshrined in KAM’s ethos.

She is moving on to pursue a new professional challenge in an Africa Advisory role; and while she will be missed by all of us at the Association, I wish her every success in her next endeavour. I know that she will remain a good partner to KAM, and I am sure she will continue to contribute to our shared vision of improving Kenya’s economic prospects in her new role.

Ms Wakiaga is currently serving her notice and will officially be leaving on the 30th of June 2022.

A recruitment process is now underway to appoint the next Chief Executive following the process prescribed by our internal regulations. The Board shall continue to provide critical oversight during this time to support the Leadership Team at KAM and staff to continue effectively delivering our mandate to our Members.
