Paving the Way for County Aggregation and Industrial Parks

12/06/2023: KAM participated in a forum organized by the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry. The purpose of the meeting was to engage industry stakeholders and development partners to explore opportunities for support and collaboration in the implementation of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPS) to enhance agriculture and the value of agricultural products.

Speaking during the meeting, Ministry of Investments Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary, Hon Moses Kuria stated that County Aggregation and Industrial Parks shall provide a unique opportunity for businesses to access a consolidated ecosystem, where shared resources and infrastructure will result in significant cost savings. “Our objective is to create industrial and aggregation parks to facilitate value addition and aggregation of all our agricultural products. This project shall be executed in two stages over a period of three years, “said Kuria.

Principal Secretary, State Department for Industry, Dr Juma Mukhwana noted that the Government, under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, acknowledges the significant contribution of the agriculture and manufacturing sectors in terms of generating income, wealth, and creating employment opportunities. “The main objective of CAIPS is to grow manufacturing and investments through Agro-Industries, equitably benefiting actors along the agricultural value chains,” added Dr Mukhwana.

KAM Head of Policy, Research and Advocacy, Mr Job Wanjohi remarked that through Agriculture for Industry, one of the 4 pillars under our Manufacturing 20by30 Plan, KAM seeks to drive local production and sourcing of primary and secondary intermediate products from the agricultural sector for manufacturing processes. He added that KAM is engaging the Council of Governors in the development and launch of the County Industrial Competitive Index (CICI) to track industrial development in counties.
