Nyanza/Western: LREB Governors commit to harmonize county tax regime

The Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) brings together 14 counties from the lake region with the objective to leverage on shared resources for economies of scale.

Bomet County hosted this year’s LREB inaugural Investment Conference that was officially opened by H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta President of the Republic of Kenya. This year’s theme was ‘optimizing utilization of shared resources for prosperity under the Big Four Agenda’.

The conference showcased opportunities within the region to local, regional and international investors touching on Trade, investment and blue economy while addressing challenges faced by businesses in the business environment.

President Kenyatta endorsed the regional bloc noting that county blocs will be one of the key pillars for alternative dispute resolutions, national harmony and economic growth.

Reading the resolutions of the conference, Kisii County Governor, Mr James Ongwae said the counties within the bloc were committing to:

• Harmonize tax regimes to remove barriers that hinder doing business in the bloc,
• Promote utilization of alternative energy sources such as solar to spur industrialization,
• Support development of special economic zones,
• Develop a policy framework for the blue economy
• Support of the Big Four Agenda with the priority of making Universal health Care a reality

The Investment Conference brought together the 14 counties, National government agencies, the private sector and development partners.
