Nyanza/Western: Governor Nyong’o hosts the Private sector to a roundtable meeting

Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, held a Governors roundtable meeting with local and international businessmen themed, ‘Harnessing the blue economy for business opportunities and sustainable development’ in Kisumu.
 
During the roundtable meeting, Governor Nyong’o outlined his Government’s plans to increase investment within the County, key being a digital base map mapping out all investment opportunities within the County and their key enablers.
 
“Value addition will be the key to Industrialization in our County as most products are exported as raw materials. We will also provide incentives where necessary for the private sector to spur growth”, said Governor Nyong’o.
 
Attending the conference as a Guest, Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana urged Kisumu County to carve out a niche and work around quick wins on simple things citing the now famous Mango processing plant in Makueni County.
 
Governor Kibwana also observed that budget absorption is a key enabler to development while also acknowledging the private sector as very important players. “You must ensure that bureaucracy is done away with and corruption must be hard fought,” said Governor Kibwana.
 
Some of the key areas highlighted by Kisumu County as areas of opportunity were agro-processing like Cotton value chain, Food processing and hides and skin.
