The Director General National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), Dr. Paul Kosgey recently visited Industries in Eldoret, to meet manufacturers, discuss pending cases and inform them on ongoing NITA projects.
During the visit to Ken knit, the DG met with Factory Director Mr. Batuk Shah, and highlighted that NITA had initiated a training project that would be beneficial to the textile sector. Once completed, the trainees would be certified by NITA. This certificate would be recognized internationally. This is in line with NITA’s objective to build quality skills for industrial development.
In the recent past, the Textile Industry has been heavily affected by changing economic trends including high cost of electricity, technological changes, poor infrastructure, high interest rates and logistics challenges when exporting, that have resulted to high cost of production.
This high cost of production makes textiles firms prone to stiff competition, both in the importation of raw material and export of finished products in to the market. There is therefore need to make policy adjustments to address the issues affecting this industry, as it offers employment to a large populations, that will lead to growth in the economy.
