The Laikipia County Government hosted a stakeholders networking session dubbed ‘The Governor’s Interactive evening on County Development & Investment Opportunities’, as part of the County’s initiatives to promote trade and investment in the County.
The County Governor, Mr Ndiritu Muriithi noted that the County is central to all the National government’s key infrastructural developments Mega projects that connect the LAPPSET and Northern corridors. The Governor also noted that the county serves a potentially large market base including the Northern and Mount Kenya Counties, with about 7.5M persons and Southern Ethiopia (15M persons).
“No one else has our kind of land. The county offers over 1984 km2 of arable land, where you can produce anything! We have introduced serviced industrial zones in Nanyuki, Naibor, Nyahururu, Rumuruti and 10 other new smart towns as we seek to increase manufacturing investors. The Manufacturing sector plays a critical role in job and wealth creation, through value chain linkages,” added Governor Muriithi.
The county government seeks to provide an enabling environment for investors, which aims to create 30,000 jobs and raise the minimum household income to Ksh. 600/day from an estimated Ksh. 300 daily in force today.
The Governor echoed his government’s commitment to holding structured engagements with Business Associations and the public, through Deal structuring spearheaded by the Laikipia County Development Authority (LCDA).
The event forms part of the county government’s Destination Laikipia Initiatives to promote trade and investment.
