Kisumu County Holds a Climate Change Development Meeting

The County Government of Kisumu hosted stakeholders to a consultative meeting on Climate Change Policy development in Kisumu. Speaking at the event, the Chief Officer Climate Change, Ms. Lorna Omuodo pointed out that Kisumu County was experiencing environmental challenges which required interventions in mitigation and adaptation.

“Climate change has no boundaries, it affects all sectors hence the need for a long term and overarching legislative and institutional framework that can facilitate the necessary direction, guidance, coordination and high level political buy in”, said Ms. Omuodo.

Ms. Omuodo also said there was need to mainstream climate change across County government and enable the effective implementation of the Kenya Climate change action Plan and National Climate Change Act, 2016.

The meeting agreed on the timelines of the policy process and its structure. The private sector was urged to embrace and support the process.
