KAM Statement on the Impact of Demonstrations on Manufacturers

Thursday, 26th June 2025: The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) expresses deep concern over the violence that accompanied the June 25th demonstrations in some parts of the country.
We acknowledge and uphold the constitutional right to peaceful assembly as enshrined in Article 37 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and provided for under the Public Order Act: “Every person has the right, peaceably and unarmed, to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket, and to present petitions to public authorities.”
While some parts of the country witnessed peaceful picketing, it is regrettable that several counties experienced violence resulting in loss of life, looting, vandalism, and widespread disruption of businesses and property.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives and urge law enforcement officers to exercise restraint while discharging their duties, to safeguard peace, protect lives, and property.
Manufacturers and business entities from various regions have reported significant damages, including looting, vandalism, injury to staff, business disruptions and destruction of property. This was perpetrated by individuals whose intent was not to protest but to cause harm. These acts have led to considerable financial losses to all business, from micro, small & medium enterprises (MSMEs) to large industries.
KAM reiterates that demonstrations must always be conducted peacefully, with utmost respect for life and property. We call upon the government to investigate all reported incidents of violence and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to building the nation’s prosperity through sustainable industrialization. This is through job creation, investments and revenue generation among other ways. However, this can only be achieved within a secure and predictable business environment that guarantees the safety of people, property, and investments.
We all share the collective responsibility to uphold peace, stability, and the long-term well-being of our nation.
