KAM hosts 20th Energy Management Award
Kenya Breweries Limited – Nairobi is the overall winner of the 2024 Energy Management Awards (EMA) hosted by Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM).
The company was crowned during the 20th edition of EMA, themed celebrating 20 years of efficiency in energy management and sustainability, where British American Tobacco Kenya Plc – GLT Plant Thika was the runners up.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Davis Chirchir noted that public-private partnership is yielding tangible efforts in enhancing energy efficiency and conservation in the country.
“The milestones we are witnessing today serve as a testament to the remarkable achievements in energy efficiency and cost-saving endeavours across various sectors. Tonight, we celebrate the remarkable achievements of industries that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to energy efficiency and conservation. These industries have not only embraced the principles of sustainable energy management but have also set exemplary standards for others to follow,” expounded CS Chirchir.
He further added that the energy sector plays a pivotal role in driving socio-economic progress in our nation. Undoubtedly, energy is directly related to our economic prosperity, influencing every aspect of society, from manufacturing to healthcare, education, agriculture, transportation, logistics, and households.
KAM Chairman, Mr Rajan Shah celebrated local manufacturers for embracing sustainable production.
“Through our efforts towards energy management and efficiency, about Ksh 15 billion and 2,000 GWh has been recorded. This represents close to 100MegaWatt of investment that has been freed up and could be used to supply energy to other users. These savings are from about 500 cumulative participations as of December 2023 since we kicked off the awards in 2004. The savings from all facilities are much higher.
Specific to this year’s awards, about 190,000 Gigajoules and 241,000 Megawatt hours of thermal and electrical energy have been saved respectively. This translates to energy savings of approximately Ksh 434 million,” noted, Mr Shah.
