Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) has appointed Mucai Kunyiha as the new National Chairman to lead the organization for a two-year term.
Mr Kunyiha, who has been the Vice Chair from July 2018, takes over from Mr Sachen Gudka whose term has come to an end. He has been on the driver’s seat in championing the Association’s Sustainability Agenda and Circular Economy through his role as the PET Sub-Sector Chair. He played a key role in the development of the Kenya Plastic Action Plan, a private sector – led policy and action plan aimed at enabling a circular economy for environmentally sustainable use and recycling of plastics in Kenya, that was launched late last year.
Speaking at KAM Head Office, Mr Kunyiha noted that the manufacturing sector is an integral part of Kenya’s sustainable growth and development, adding that “The road ahead for manufacturing and the economy will not be easy. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is yet to be determined as it continues to unleash damage locally and globally. It demands big changes which we must explore urgently and diligently, including the development of rebound strategies and policies that will see the economy rebound and increase the sector’s contribution to GDP exponentially.”
The New Chairman will focus on advocating for the development of coherent policies that support industrial growth, pushing for predictability in fiscal and legislative regulations and support for SMEs through policy advocacy and championing Kenya’s circular economy through enhanced partnerships, driving the waste management agenda through the Kenya Plastic Action Plan.
Mr Rajan Shah, the CEO of Capwell Group of Companies which include Capwell Industries Ltd, has been appointed as the new Vice Chair. He has also served on the KAM Board in various capacities and also served as the regional Chairman of KAM Central Region.
Mr Kunyiha is a Lawyer and the Group Managing Director of Kzanaka Ltd, which includes Cooper K-Brands Ltd, Analabs Ltd, Mashiara Park and Qaribu Inn.
The Out-going Chairman Mr Gudka will remain an Ex-Officio member of the Board, playing an advisory role in directing the growth of the Association.
