The KAM Machakos Chapter held its committee meeting to strategy on 2017 key priority areas for members in the region. The Committee led by the Chapter Chairman, Mr. Regeru Mureithi identified membership growth, retention and value addition as the main focus point to increase chapter visibility.
“We need to grow our membership base in the chapter to achieve the goal of KAM in representing 75% of all local manufacturers. Machakos is a hotbed of industry development for both local and multinational companies due its vast lands and proximity to the capital city. We need to take advantage of this to ensure the chapter has numbers,” added Mr. Mureithi.
To impact on the policy development process in the chapter, the committee proposed the need for the chapter to leverage on the election period by engaging political parties gubernatorial and Member of County Assembly. This will ensure that KAM has a rapport with the incumbent leaders with the aim of promoting pro-business engagement and enhance county – business relations.
The committee members were assigned a role to spearhead on the following areas: power, county engagements, business regulations, infrastructure, land zoning and trainings. This will ensure that all factors affecting business are addressed effectively.
In order to make the chapter vibrant, the chapter office supported by the committee will embark on visiting dormant members and ensuring they appoint representatives to handle KAM engagements. Categorizing members according to their sectors was also adopted to assist in the deliverance of better services to members.
