Empowering Industry Through Skills Development: KAM Presents Manufacturing Priority Agenda to PS TVET

KAM convened a meeting with the PS State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr Esther Muoria, to present its Manufacturing Priority Agenda.

KAM Head of Consulting and Business Development, Ms Joyce Njogu, presented the association’s strategic vision to increase the manufacturing sector’s contribution to GDP to 20% by 2030, along with a roadmap for economic expansion. This vision is centered on four key pillars: Global Competitiveness, Export-Led Industrialization, SME Development, and Agriculture for Industry.

Among the issues presented during the meeting were the creation of a policy framework facilitating the coordinated formation of Sector Skills Advisory Committees (SSACs), harmonization of the same, and operationalization of the National Skills Council.

Discussions also revolved around raising awareness to support the scaling up of Competency-based Education Training (CBET) uptake in TVET, providing financial support to learners during industrial internships and attachments, granting tax rebates or relief by incentivizing industry to support skills development, and ensuring the inclusion of People With Disabilities (PWDs) and marginalized youth and communities, among other pertinent issues.

Dr. Muoria reaffirmed her commitment to championing and actively supporting initiatives aimed at promoting skills development within the manufacturing sector. She emphasized the role of skill enhancement in driving sustainable economic growth and fostering competitiveness.
