Elections impact business trend and industry operations

Business operations in Uasin Gishu Region were highly affected by the electioneering period which saw businesses experience a slow moving rate in the purchase of non-consumable goods such as electronics, furniture, clothes among others. However, consumable goods were purchased in large quantities especially towards the August elections.

Due to the low demand of products, companies are not producing at their full capacity, with factories being forced to let go of its labour force due to low returns. Further, industries opt not to import their raw materials with most operating on “wait and see” which has the potential to create market instability.

Furthermore, unpredictable policy changes such as the ban on plastic bags has also affected manufactures especially industries that depend on plastic bags as their packaging material.
