17/08/2023: Led by Job Muriithi, Head of Policy, Research, and Advocacy, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) actively participated in the 2023 Devolution Conference themed: “Unleashing the Economic Potential of Counties by Strategically Positioning them as Attractive Hubs for Trade and Investment, while Drawing Insights from Historical Experiences.”
A range of topics emerged from the conference discussions. These include the collaborative implementation of KAM’s comprehensive Sector deep dive report aimed at fostering the growth of county economies. Other topics encompassed a comprehensive review of land rates, ensuring the County Government’s commitment to timely payments and facilitating market access. There was also emphasis on enhancing productivity and competitiveness through the utilization of mechanization, the deployment of Extension Officers, and the adoption of sound agricultural practices.
Integral to the discussions were proposals centered around the integration of County Development Plans, the establishment of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks, and the elimination of Non-Tariff Barriers particularly in border counties. This strategic move would significantly facilitate international trade.
An additional aspect of our agenda is the Agriculture for Industry (A4I) project. Recognizing the significance of value addition in curbing post-harvest losses, boosting international trade, and empowering individuals through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
