Development of Nairobi County Water and Sanitation Policy Underway

The development of the Nairobi City County water and sanitation policy is at an advanced stage. When finalized and implemented, the policy will offer guidelines on proper management water resources and provision of sanitation services to city residents. This is according to Mr. Larry Wambua, County Executive for Environment, Water, Energy and Natural Resources, who was speaking at a workshop held at the Elementaita Country Lodge Naivasha on July 27th.

Nairobi residents experience massive water shortages that affect the operation of most industries. Reinforcing the fact that water is a constitutional right of every Kenyan, Mr. Wambua expressed optimism that the policy will guarantee efficient water resources management while at the same time see to it that the current sanitation system indeed work. On his part, the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Ag. Managing Director, Eng. Nahashon Muguna, cited lack of proper by-laws, water tapping and dilapidated infrastructure as some of the challenges the company has to deal with.

Lunga Lunga Road Repair to Commence

The tender for the improvement of Lunga Lunga road has been advertised. According to the Kenya Urban Roads Authority Director General, Eng. Silas Kinoti, work is expected to commence on the busy road immediately the tender is awarded. This will be a reprieve to motorists who use the road regularly, considering it serves as a major entry and exit point of the larger Industrial Area. Other projects in the pipeline are Maasai and East Gate Roads.

Fraudster Alert

A group of people purporting to be police officer and other government officials are harassing unsuspecting business owners, especially in some sections of Industrial Area. According to Makadara OCPD Mr. Nehemia Langat, the perpetrators accuse legit businesses of malpractice only to solicit for bribes.

To combat that, members are urged to urgently inform the police whenever they feel threatened by any official. Furthermore, there is need to interrogate any visitors at the gate before allowing anyone entry into your property.

Installation of modern long-range security cameras will also go a long way in helping the police pursue such individuals. Generally, the security situation in the main Industrial Area, Mombasa road and Baba Dogo has improved in the last half of the year, but members are encouraged to remain alert and report any suspicion or incidents.
