KAM CEO’s Brief | 25th January 2019

National Anti-Corruption Conference

Kenya Association of Manufacturers and the Global Compact Network Kenya participated in the National Anti-Corruption Conference from 24th – 25th January 2019, held  in Nairobi.

A notable outcome from the conference was the Private Sector commitment to, among other things, “prepare an anti-corruption policy to be adopted by signatories of The Code of Ethics for Business in Kenya, in collaboration with the UN Global Compact”.

Business and Human Rights Peer Learning Workshop

In partnership with Global Compact Kenya, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) held a two-day Business and Human Rights Peer Learning Workshop from 22 – 23 January 2019.

The workshop aimed to familiarize participants from Kenya-based companies with the UN Guiding Principles (UNGPs) on Business and Human Rights (technical knowledge), and to equip participants with practical knowledge on how to get started with implementing the UNGPs in their organization and the opportunities to improve alignment with the UNGPs in their business practices (process knowledge).

The workshop also offered participants, a majority of whom were Global Compact Kenya signatories, the opportunity to discuss their role in the national Business and Human Rights policy context, particularly in relation to the development of the National Action Plan on the implementation of the UNGPs.
