KAM CEO’s Brief | 19th January 2018

AGOA  Strategy Validation Workshop

Kenya Association of Manufacturers participated in the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Strategy Validation Workshop on 18th January 2018 under the theme maximizing opportunities under AGOA.

Since the year 2000, AGOA has been a critical driver of trade between the Kenya and Sub-Saharan Africa and the United States of America.

Speaking during the workshop, KAM Chairlady, Ms. Flora Mutahi noted that Kenya has largely benefitted from this trade agreement; growing its exports under AGOA to nearly  $600. “Kenya has not exploited the opportunities presented by AGOA fully. There are 6400 tariff lines that are available for manufacturers and the Kenyan business community to exploit under the agreement,” added Ms. Mutahi.

Though export oriented apparel manufacturing has seen its ups and downs over the years, it has remain resilient and matured to a global industry, attracting global investors and renowned buyers.
